So, there was a technical briefing at The Place, attendance obligatory and no-one free to go! A call goes out for volunteers, step forward, me, the least technically savvy person ever. But, it's a chance to get a look at the Robin Howard Theatre at The Place, I've only been there as audience before, this time, I get to see backstage and behind the scenes.
The bar is full of people younger and thinner than me, all my fears about Ceremonies auditions start to wriggle about in the back of my mind. But, hey, these young and fit ones are friendly and we swap details of our projects. I'm sitting next to a lady from Newbury who is bringing a group of young people to refresh, another festival after our Resolution has gone!
Then there was cake and coffee, small dancer size slices, of course. After, back for the risk assessment! What do we need to do to avoid accidents, know what we're doing and do it properly, so no problem there, then! This half, I realise how little space there is off stage, how precise we are going to need to be getting on and off, and how quiet.I get a quick backstage tour, here are the dressing rooms says my guide, I don't think we'll be in there, I say, we're in the studio. Oh, you're the Olympic group, how many? I tell him, wow, he says, we're looking forward to that! Well, so am I, no stadium sized audiences this time but how amazing to be dancing in such a special Place, treading in the footsteps of so many giants of contemporary dance, lucky doesn't even begin to go there!
